when the wine is gone a different bouquet remains
air taking on lightness
such is my ghost: the world, mother of all
cannot stand to lose everything of her children
so keeps our most volatile parts
to flavour the wind
after the wine is drunk, bottle smashed
in the sad dark of the garage where the Daimlers
and Peugeots purred for my guests
the signal of my eyes still flashes
on the steps where I posed, a statue of desire
carved by the gazes of wealthy men
my absence forms a longing the visitor cannot place
